“I chose Magdelana House this year as my charity. This is one of their first years in the SECC and I was excited to see the organization in the campaign. This organization assists women who have been abused or trafficked to protectively move the women and their children into a safe and new life. I have served as a volunteer for this organization in the past and some of the stories are truly heartbreaking. It is also amazing to see how these women change their lives through this program including education and career assistance while they are living there and beyond. On the education side, I have served as a mentor and several of these women have found a place at UTSA to start over and continue their education and lives. I donate to the SECC every year because there are so many worthy causes. Please join me.”

“I have a special connection to Rise Recovery, an organization dedicated to helping teens and young adults in recovery. This video captures our family story and what led us to Rise. I am the mom in the video and my daughter is Mary Kate. She actually graduated from UTSA last spring. After my husband passed away, Mary Kate, my youngest daughter (age 8) felt that she had to be strong for me and couldn’t come to me with her grief. She ended up drinking and getting mixed up with the wrong crowd, leading to drug abuse as well. Rise was instrumental in her recovery and molding her into someone who is now making a huge difference in many other lives. I also benefited greatly from the parent support group at Rise.”

“The military has always held a special place in my heart. My father is a retired servicemember, and growing up, the military was a constant presence in our lives, supporting our family for many years. I was also a military spouse, and once again, the military community was there for us. Because of these experiences, I truly feel like I’ve been part of the military family for a long time. Being able to give back and support veterans means so much to me, and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to help.”

“I give not just because it’s the right thing to do, but I had someone close to me who was affected by cancer. From that point on, I do not wish anyone to have to deal with this disease alone regardless of ethnic group, race, color, or religious beliefs. I want to make a difference in fighting this disease during my remaining time on earth. I want to make sure I continue to provide hope for someone who may feel hopeless and continue to pay it forward.”

“This year like previous years, my two favorite organizations that I enjoy giving to are, The Children’s Shelter and the Battered Women and Children’s Shelter. These shelters offer a safe haven for women and children during some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives—by donating they understand that we see them, we value them, and we care for them. Every child is at the heart of our future, and it’s our responsibility to make sure they grow up feeling safe and inspired. By donating, I help provide essential services like counseling, education, housing assistance, and more so that they can put their lives back together or move forward knowing they have a way to get there—empowering women and children to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope is what it’s all about. It may be a small gesture but it makes me feel like I am making a difference in their world.”
